Hope Among the Unreached: A Report from Wajir
Our journey to Wajir began on the evening of October 15th, 2025. We set out from Nairobi for what would be a long twelve-hour trip to Kenya’s northern frontier. At some point into our journey, the road was rough and dusty, and the night felt endless. Each attempt to catch a little sleep was met with a sudden jolt or an unexpected bump that quickly brought us back to full alertness. Through interesting police checkpoints and stretches of barren terrain, we finally arrived in Wajir at exactly 7:00 a.m. the next morning, tired but thankful.
At the bus stage stood our host, a warm and familiar face, Paul. Paul is a Discipleship Training Academy (DTA) 2023 alumnus and has served as a missionary in Wajir for over six years. In that time, he has integrated deeply into the community, learning the rhythms, challenges, and beauty of life among the Somali people.
Part of our mission for the visit was training on Inner Healing hosted in one of the local churches in Wajir. This training was graced by about 52 participants each day. The topics included: Introduction to Inner Healing, Freedom from the Pain of Abuse and Trauma, Overcoming Rejection, Breaking Soul Ties, and Freedom from Unforgiveness.
As the sessions unfolded, many participants opened their hearts and shared their personal struggles; stories of rejection, broken relationships, and moral challenges that have weighed heavily on individuals and families. Yet amid these confessions, there was a palpable sense of God’s presence bringing healing, hope, and freedom. Truly, the Lord was at work among His people.
Beyond the sessions, we enjoyed rich fellowship with Paul and his family. Paul’s passion for the Gospel is contagious. He spoke with great humility about God’s faithfulness in sustaining his ministry in a region where believers are few and faith often comes at a cost. His heart burns for the unreached, particularly the Somali community, and his testimony is a reminder that God’s grace knows no bounds.
We also had the privilege of meeting a Christian convert from Islam, who joined us for fellowship and prayer. Her story of courage and transformation was both humbling and inspiring. It reminded us of the cost of following Christ in regions like these and the importance of standing in prayer for those who have taken that bold step of faith.
One evening, Paul took us to visit his farm, a remarkable initiative that combines ministry with sustainability. There, he has started growing indigenous medicinal trees such as Neem (Mwarubaini) & Moringa trees and vegetables. The vision is to expand into fruit farming, livestock, and poultry. This project will not only provide for his family but also empower the local community, offering practical skills and demonstrating God’s provision in tangible ways.
As we departed from Wajir, our hearts were full – full of gratitude for God’s presence throughout the mission, and full of burden for believers serving in Islamic communities across Kenya and beyond. We left praying that God would continue to strengthen Paul and his family, grant them favor with the community, and multiply their impact, that many more souls would come to Christ through their faithful witness.
