A Journey Toward Healing – Zambia
“He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners.” — Isaiah 61:1
Sometimes healing begins when someone finally feels safe enough to talk about what they have carried for years.
In September, Hope Alive Initiatives had the privilege of holding an Emotional Healing Training in Zambia, hosted by a local church and attended by friends of Hope Alive. More than 105 women and several men gathered for the training. Among them were members of the deaf community, who were able to participate fully with the help of a sign language interpreter.
From the beginning, it was clear that this would be more than a series of teaching sessions.
Bringing Hidden Pain into the Light
The training explored Isaiah 61 and addressed some of the issues that can deeply affect our emotional and spiritual well-being, unforgiveness, father wounds, trauma, grief, and bitterness.
These are not always easy subjects to talk about. Many people learn to function while carrying pain beneath the surface. They continue with their families, relationships, businesses, churches, and responsibilities, even while dealing with wounds that have never been addressed.
Through teaching, practical exercises, and prayer, participants were given an opportunity to look honestly at some of these areas and invite God into their pain.
Some of the key issues that emerged included the pain of loss and grief, relationship struggles, father wounds, challenges connected to businesses, and a desire for restoration.
When Teaching Becomes Personal
One of the significant aspects of the training was the incorporation of practical sessions. Participants were not simply listening to teaching; they were given an opportunity to reflect, respond, pray, and begin dealing with issues that had been affecting them.
We witnessed people opening their hearts and bringing difficult experiences before God.
One testimony particularly captured the personal nature of what was happening. A lady pastor shared after receiving prayer for healing:
“I slept better after the prayer of healing for the first time in a long time.”
It may sound like a simple testimony, but sometimes restoration begins with something as basic as being able to rest peacefully again.
For someone who has carried emotional pain for a long time, a good night’s sleep can be a sign that something is beginning to change.
A Strong Sense of God’s Presence
Throughout the meetings, there was a strong sense of God’s presence.
As participants engaged with the teaching and practical sessions, there were opportunities for prayer, reflection, and ministry. We were encouraged to see people addressing areas of pain and beginning to experience freedom.
This is at the heart of why Hope Alive invests in emotional healing. We believe that people need more than information. They need spaces where they can encounter God, understand His truth, bring their wounds before Him, and begin walking in the freedom He offers.
The Ripple Effect of Healing
The impact of a training like this does not have to end when the final session is over.
When a person begins to experience healing, the effects can reach much further. A healed parent may relate differently to their children. A restored church leader may serve from a healthier place. Someone who has experienced freedom from bitterness may approach relationships differently. A person who has found hope may become a source of hope to others.
This is why we are praying for a ripple effect from the Zambia training.
Our prayer is that what God began in the participants will continue to influence their families, churches, and communities, bringing healing, freedom, and lasting transformation.
“You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit, fruit that will last.” — John 15:16
We are grateful to everyone who prayed with us for this training. Your prayers helped create the spiritual covering for this work, and we are thankful for every partner who continues to stand with Hope Alive Initiatives as we seek to restore hope and see lives transformed.
The training may have taken place in Zambia, but we believe the story does not end there.
The healing that begins in one life can become hope for a family, a church, and an entire community.
Keep Hope Alive.
